"You have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.' "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. "Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering. - Matthew 5:21-24 NASU
Jesus and me, I’m good. Keep my head down, offer my gift to the Lord, and expect a blessing in return. I love Jesus, but it is His church I’m not too fond of. I try to serve God with all that I am, but my brother in Christ does something too stupid and spoils the moment. And another brother in Christ never adds value to our church services; I don’t know why they even come; they are good for nothing. And then there are those brothers that are dumber than dirt. They are fools; if they would just listen to me, that would be wise.
Here you go, Lord, is my sacrifice to You. You are my everything! What? What do you mean someone has something against me? Who could have something against me? I haven’t done anyone wrong. I’m a fair person. I love justice and say things as I see them, and if someone has a problem with that. That is their problem!
If this mirrors you in any way, you need to put God first and reconcile with your brother. You may find out that you are not all that. Maybe you do see things correctly, but you are arrogant about it and make people feel less than worthy of the death and resurrection of Jesus. You need a little humility. Being good with God is more than your sacrifices to Him at the altar or in your intimate times of worship and adoration. If you want to walk with God in the cool evening, then care what God cares about: other people.
